Great Coffee, Even Greater Impact
Education for the Community
Gold Mountain Coffee Growers strives to teach the industry what’s involved in farming specialty coffee—specifically how much human effort it takes to make true specialty a reality.
In the off-season, Gold Mountain provides free computer classes to girls from coffee communities so that they can learn Excel for business, word, Powerpoint, and the basics of computing.
Providing Farmers Access to Credit
Access to credit for farmers in Nicaragua is extremely tight today, and has been historically. Gold Mountain Coffee Growers brings zero-interest or low-interest loans to farmers, who have achieved the following:
- Increasing their yields by financing agricultural inputs
- Building new houses
- Purchasing solar panels or electrical access
- Improving their wet processing mills
- Purchasing more land to expand their farms
- Building volcanic filters to clean water used to wash coffee so it does not pollute
- Renewing coffee trees
- Setting up micro-businesses
- Diversifying into vegetable production
- Sending their kids to school and universities
